uPVC windows and doors FAQs

Regularly specified for use in a wide range of domestic and commercial applications, there are many reasons why installers and homeowners opt for uPVC windows and doors. If you’ve been considering them for your next project, here are some uPVC windows and doors frequently asked questions (FAQs) that we’ve been asked over the years.

Are timber-effect uPVC windows and doors available?

Flush sash window in green
Yes. We offer timber effect windows and doors built from high-quality Deceuninck profiles, but we also have Residence collection wood effect windows and doors available. Our uPVC doors can also be coated in a wide selection of durable woodgrain foils.

What about coloured uPVC windows and doors?

We have 24 different finishes available for coloured uPVC windows and doors. This includes white and grey uPVC windows and doors, which are both popular options for domestic and commercial applications.

Do they have multi-chambered profiles?

Every uPVC window and door profile from Techniglaze features multiple heat-trapping chambers. These work in conjunction with the latest glazing technologies and uPVC’s natural insulation qualities, ensuring they can attain the best energy ratings available, keep interiors warmer and make properties more energy-efficient.

Are uPVC windows and doors secure?

Our uPVC windows and doors have been rigorously tested to – and passed – British Standards for security. We also use the highest quality profiles for added sturdiness, and we equip them with high-security locking systems. Therefore, they do an excellent job at keeping residential and commercial properties secure.

How long do uPVC windows last?

uPVC windows and doors resist discolouration from UV exposure along with warping, flaking and peeling. They can last between 20-25 years on average, although if they receive the right care throughout their lifetime, they can last for up to 35.

For peace of mind, every uPVC product we supply or install comes with a 10-year guarantee.

Are triple glazed uPVC windows available?

Yes. Choose from double glazed and triple glazed uPVC windows along with a wide selection of glazing options from Pilkington, Guardian or Saint Gobain. This includes solar control glass, self-cleaning glass, anti-condensation, textured and obscure glass, Georgian bars and more. So, even the most unique of end-user requirements can be met.

Which is cheaper, aluminium or uPVC windows and doors?

Green aluminium bay windows

Generally, aluminium windows and doors will always cost more than like-for-like uPVC products. This is because the raw material is more expensive, and also because they are more intensive to manufacture.

What is the difference between aluminium and uPVC windows?

Although aluminium windows tend to cost more than uPVC ones, they’re also stronger and more durable. As a result, they can be built with super slim frames and last around 40 years on average. Any RAL colour can be applied to aluminium frames too, meaning there are over 200 possible finishes for them.

uPVC is a natural insulator, whilst aluminium is a conductor. However, aluminium window frames are fitted with polyamide thermal breaks, which allows them to compete with uPVC windows in terms of thermal performance.

What uPVC window and door profiles do you use?

Although our uPVC doors are fabricated using high-quality profiles from Deceuninck, we use a selection of high-quality profiles for our uPVC windows:

Every profile we use has been carefully selected for outstanding performance and stunning aesthetics, and they come fabricated to the highest standards.

What window/door furniture do you use?

White uPVC traditional look windows

Every uPVC product from Techniglaze comes with an impressive selection of hardware from Fab & Fix or From the Anvil. The options we have available include monkey tail handles and window stays, swan neck door handles, lion head door knockers and more, allowing for exceptional customisation.

Is uPVC windows and doors installation easy?

As our uPVC windows and doors are supplied to the bespoke requirements of individual projects, we make their installation as straightforward as possible. This makes them an excellent choice for installers and homeowners alike.

Do you manufacture and install uPVC?

Here at Techniglaze, we do not manufacture our uPVC products; we supply them from the leading manufacturers in the UK. As a highly renowned window and door installer, we have also provided our uPVC products to countless residential and commercial projects.

Do you install uPVC windows and doors near me?

Therefore, we serve a range of areas, installing uPVC windows and doors in properties in Bath, Bristol, Yeovil, Devon, Dorset and many more towns, villages and cities.

We are delighted with the windows, and have already been complimented by our neighbours on the upgrade.

Tyler and Paul were very professional and showed good initiative for the inevitable adjustments that needed to be made. They were particularly considerate of our house, it’s character and our pets! Please pass on our thanks and comments as appropriate.

Mary

We are delighted with the windows. As you know we were concerned that they would look different and more “clunky” but really you can’t tell the difference except that the new ones are not falling apart!!! The guys who did the fitting were also good. They were working in freezing fog, really cold but they carried on regardless, they were extremely tidy and cleared up after themselves.

Roy Robinson

I am delighted with the recent installation, it’s good to look out of clear windows. The work was carried out professionally by two excellent gentleman.
I will not hesitate to contact you when I am ready to replace others, also would certainly recommend you to others.

Excellent customer service, range of products and attention to detail. I honestly can’t rate them highly enough. They stepped in and came to the rescue after Salisbury glass cost us 8 months of time and 100k in increased material costs.

These guys have been great to us. Helped us out at short notice after we were badly let down by another supplier. We asked for several minor details that were not standard (e.g. different locking mechanisms), and they were flexible and open to ideas. We ended up also commissioning our front door from them; it is super sturdy and beautiful. Always courteous, professional, and good payment terms.
